Eva Schlegel, Floating gates open world, Cape 10
“Floating gates open world”
Originally developed for the entrance section of CAPE 10 (a housing project for homeless women and a health care and culture center for indigent people) the sculpture floats in the two storey entrance space and consists of a 3400 mm diameter world structure with latitudes and longitudes.
3 big round double side mirrors are floating inside this steel structure on different heights- and are accompanied by 4 double side mirrored circles outside.
The steel structure of the world is equipped with 2 LED lamps on the poles, the world ball is completely demountable. The mirrors are diameter 1200 mm each, and are constantly moved by air streams and keep revolving around their axes, this gives a permanent movement and reflection of the space around, of the city outside and the space inside.
